Swine Invitational
Punju Golfers Association
THE 2016 SWINE INVITATIONAL
ARIZONA – May 12-14 2016
Alright golfers, we have been Chimps v Baboons, Donkeys v Mules, and Clowns v Jesters. After a year away from the animal kingdom, we return for the Swine Invitational. This year team Pig will battle Team Boar to determine who will win the Swine cup. For a little color- the pig is considered the swine that is of the barnyard type. A domesticated house pig- refined and white collar. The boar is wild and reckless, a vandal.
Building on last years format- The Swine invitational is a 3 day Ryder Cup style tournament. We will be 12 total players; each team will have 6 players.
There will be three matches on days one and two. Each match is worth two points with a total of six points available on each of the first two days. The matches on days one and two will be four-man better ball match play format. Please see link below for a description of better ball (four ball). Note that will use net scores – 80% of course handicap pegged to the lowest handicap in each match, on all days. Each of these matches is worth two points and they can end in a tie in which case the points are split.

The last day will be 12 9 hole singles matches each worth one point. Each player will play a match on the front nine and a match on the back nine. Your back nine has already been determined and is detailed below. Your front nine opponent will be known as soon as we draw teams. I will explain. We have ranked all players one through 12 by index. The rankings, and strokes for each day are in the excel file accompanying this document.
The teams will be determined based on index and random draw. We have slotted the players from 1 – 12 based on May 1 indexes. From there we will take players 1 and 2 and put them on separate teams (randomly), players 3 and 4 will be placed on separate teams (randomly). As such, the number three player could be placed with the number one or the number two player, and the number four player will be placed on the opposite team from the number 3 player. We will repeat this process with players 5 and 6, 7 and 8 and so on until we have two teams with each index level represented on each team. Commissioner Note: I am augmenting this slightly based on past performance and index trends to ensure we are competitive all the way through- as such in the last group, I am insisting the Romy and Par (seeds 10 and 11) will be on the same team and Ajay and Sunil (seeds 9 and 12) will be on the same team.
For the singles matches we will go out by index highest out first. On the front nine you will play the member of your foursome who could have been on your team but is not (if this is confusing- just realize you will play the guy in your group who is not on your team and you are not playing on the back. Any hog can figure this out. The back nine is as follows:
Sam v. Manish
Sanjay v. Kiran
Vinay v. Bobby
Biren v. Sandeep
Ajay v. Romy
Par v. Sunil
Note on the front nine, based on commissioner note above Ajay will play Par and Romy will play Sunil.
We will pick teams at the airport on Thursday morning.
Buy-In and Bets:
$50 to me at the start for on course closest to the pins etc. We will have four per day and each will be worth $50.
$200 per man as a wager. This goes from the losing team to the winning team. Settle directly with your Saturday back nine opponent.
There will also be a Champions dinner and drinks hosted by the losing team on Saturday night.
DAY 1 MATCHES – Grayhawk Raptor
(Thursday) – Green Tees – 135 slope
Format: 3 Four man better ball matches
Each team will form 3 teams of 2 . The partners will be at the discretion of the teams. Team Pig will declare who their first team in the first foursome will be and Team Boar will then declare their team to go out in the first foursome. After the first foursome is set, Team Boar will declare who their team in the second foursome will be, Team Pig will then match and also name their team in the 3rd group. Team Boar will respond.
The matches are all worth two points and if they end in a tie the points are split. We will play this and all matches at 80% of course handicap and we will peg against the lowest handicap in the group.
The lineups for Day 1 are to be determined on the plane to Arizona.
DAY 2 MATCHES – Troon Pinnacle – Gold Tees 137 Slope.

The lineups for Day 2 will be set after round 1.
Day 3–SINGLES MATCHES – Troon Monument – Silver Tees 130, Slope.
12 Nine hole Matches
These matches are based on seed. This is a singles match at 80% of course handicap. I will put out the strokes before the round begins. On the front Nine you will play the member of your foursome who is not on your team and is not the one you are playing on the back nine.
RULES:
It is expected that everyone knows the rules of the game, however each match will police itself. You can all agree on what to do for any given situation, as those affected will be present.
Rangefinders are legal but the slope adjustments must not be used. You are on your honor to turn this feature off.
FORFEITS
If you must forfeit because of legitimate injury or legitimate illness- we will adjust based depending on which team you are on. Note a hangover is not an injury- it’s a fuck up. In this instance the opposing team gets the point or in better ball your team plays a man down, and for each match forfeited because of you – you must pay each member of your team $20, excluding legitimate reasons. So if you miss a full round- you owe your team a total of $100.
PACE OF PLAY:
We have a lot of golf to play that weekend so it will be helpful to work on pace of play. If you are out of a hole: pickup. Have fun- but lets face the facts that we all have the handicaps that we do for a reason…..read the greens, look at yardages etc….but hurry up and hit the damn ball.
CADDIES
Not sure if they are available- its up to you.
SIDE BETS:
These are encouraged. You will be going head to head within your groups and you can place more action with individuals on the opposing team as well. Bet on the other matches…do whatever you want to do….if you can find someone to take the bet, I encourage it to be made – it makes for lively dinner conversation. I would love to buy one of my Friday competitors a golf shirt at the resort or dinner one night…but you will have to beat my team - any takers?
I know this is a little confusing, but it’s late and I am revising last year’s document. Please forgive formatting, spelling, the off center pig pic etc. If there is a mistake in the above, I will clarify (because I knew what the hell I meant). If you have any questions, suggestions, or comments let me know.
